Winter Soldier #1

 This week's Super Cool Pick!
I'm a late comer to sports enthusiasm and I wouldn't even qualify myself as an enthusiast if asked, but then again I found myself up at 7am on Sunday morning to prepare to trek up to Gillette Stadium to see the New England Patriots off to their ( hopeful ) win over the NY Giants in Super Bowl XLVI. With my lovely wife and child cheering on our endeavor we braved the cold, the traffic and the teaming throngs of humanity to wallow in the glory that is Patriot's Pride. The atmosphere was cheerful and lively preceding the eruption of elation, awe, pride, anticipation and expectation as our champions, our heroes strode onto the field to grant us a brief audience and allow us to bathe them in good will simply by our presence and applause. Truly amazing is the height of glory we will elevate others to when they give us such an inconsequential victory as that of a game. Imagine then how we might treat a superhero that saves our city, homes, lives, the world. If such a person or persons existed we would undoubtedly be captivated. Is this though because of their deeds? We have everyday heroes all around us saving lives, saving homes, saving the world and getting the bad guys, so it wouldn't be particularly new to us, perhaps, just flashier. Is it the blend of Hero and Superstar that might capture our imaginations and drive us into a twitter frenzy bordering on stalker status or would we become complacent and even suspicious of our would be super-heroes if they existed? Or ... would we throw them a party? Such a cool concept is that. It would be great if we got to celebrate all our victories in such a way as I viewed today. It would be great to see such a multitude of people joined together to cheer on our everyday heroes as well as our highly deserved sports heroes. [Side note: The Patriots are treating various police, Firemen, Teachers and Military personnel to a free trip to the Super Bowl so kudos to them. ] We need more of this folks. Lots more. We need those good tidings. We need the kinship. We need the respect and the admiration for all those doing their best for us all or even just doing their part. It's a great thought that somewhere, some-when, to somebody whose lives we've touched in some way, we are all heroes. Can you dig it?
